The legacy of Vivienne Westwood
08 January 2023
Vivienne Westwood has marked the spirits of generations of rebel souls through time and whose presence and sense of activism will be greatly and deeply missed in the world of fashion.
The world of fashion has gone through many powerful and painful losses but Vivienne Westwood’s has shaken up the industry on December 29, 2022. The pioneer of the punk, activist movement in fashion has left a sense of all its work into the air.
Let’s have a look on the timeline and some iconic moments of the British designer.
Before the boom of the punk movement in the 1970’s, Westwood was a self-made designer and opened her first store “Let it Rock” with her husband Malcolm McLaren. An avant-garde of her visionary mind. The store quickly changed names for “Sex” and turned into a more provocative, punk rock movement led by the Sex Pistols where they found their inspiration.
The pioneer of the movement wanted to be ethical, political, but mostly delved into the industry of fashion. Rebellious and with a free spirit, she began to lean towards a more experimental kind of style in the 1980’s.
From her first runway shows to her styling of divas like Dita Von Teese, singers like Harry Styles and Dua Lipa or supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Bella Hadid, Vivienne Westwood has marked the spirits of generations of rebel souls through time and whose presence and sense of activism will be greatly and deeply missed in the world of fashion.
